KWUF is located in the beautiful Colorado Rocky Mountains. Only about 20 miles from the Continental Divide at Wolf Creek Pass, Pagosa Springs is also surrounded by national forest and wilderness areas.
The San Juan Forest's total land area is 2,108,314 acres, all in Colorado. The elevations within the San Juan Forest range from approximately 6,000 feet above sea level to the highest of over 14,000 feet. |

To the north and northwest are the Weminuche and Piedra Wilderness areas and to the east lies the South San Juan Wilderness area. To the south and southwest is the Ute Indian Reservation.
Not far to the west is the Chimney Rock archaeological area and national historic site (designated in 1970). Chimney Rock is situated on about 4,100 acres of the San Juan National Forest land surround by the Southern Ute Indian Reservation.
Pagosa Springs boasts natural hot mineral springs which attract visitors from around the world.
Some of the town buildings are even heated using the heat from these hot springs! |
